Gustav Wunderwald

Gustav Wunderwald (1882 - 1945) was active/lived in Germany.  Gustav Wunderwald is known for Landscape and cityscape painting.

Gustav Wunderwald was born in Cologne in 1882.  The painter and stage designer Gustav Wunderwald trained with the Cologne painter Wilhelm Kuhn and subsequently studied with Max Brückner in Gotha. 

Around 1900, he worked as a painter in the studio for theatre painting of Georg Hartwig & Co.  From 1904 to 1907, he worked as a set designer at the Royal Opera in Stockholm.  From 1912 to 1917, he was a decorator at the Deutsche Oper in Berlin. 

From 1919, he lived as a freelance artist in Berlin.  He produced paintings and drawings of landscapes in the Rhineland, in Tyrol, in the Black Forest and on the River Havel, as well as Berlin cityscapes.

Today, works by Wunderwald are on display in major museum collections, including the Berlinische Galerie, the Neue Nationalgalerie, the City Museum of Berlin, as well as the Hessian State Museum in Darmstadt.  Wunderwald died in 1945.(cko)
